LIM Students Win YMA Fashion Scholarships
January 2008 -
Three LIM seniors who were selected by the Young Menswear Association (YMA) as YMA Scholars for the 2007-2008 academic year attended the YMA's Annual Awards Dinner at New York's Marriott Marquis on January 9. Kenneth Cole, Mervyn's CEO Rick Leto, and Patty and Jay Baker were honored at the black-tie event and Tim Gunn, host of "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style" and chief creative officer of Liz Claiborne, Inc. emceed.
As YMA scholarship recipients, Heather Martin, Jackie Orticelli, Sahar Parirokh and Sibyl Almonte all received $5000 towards their senior year tuition and had numerous internship opportunities available to them through the extensive apparel industry network of YMA members and supporters.
YMA Scholarships are competitive, with students in fashion-focused majors from schools such as Cornell University, Brandeis University and the Rhode Island School of Design all vying for funds.
