Educator Information

We have some very exciting news to share regarding a recent event at the YMA-Fashion Scholarship Fund that will have a positive impact on our organization for many years to come.

The YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund and the Geoffrey Beene Foundation have formed a five year strategic alliance to further our mutual goal of expanding support of students seeking careers in the Fashion Industry. The Geoffrey Beene Foundation will contribute $2.0M to the fund over the next five years.

“Geoffrey Beene has always stood for excellence and the best way to achieve excellence is through education. The Geoffrey Beene Foundation is proud to be at the forefront of the fashion industry by giving back and supporting highly qualified students achieve their goals and dreams” said Tom Hutton, President of Geoffrey Beene Inc. and trustee of the GB Foundation.

How does this affect the YMA and impact our partnering schools and scholars?

Commencing this January (this years scholars), the YMA will award a $25K “Geoffrey Beene National Merit Scholarship” to (4) enterprising students majoring in fashion and related disciplines (design, merchandising, finance, marketing, retailing, and liberal arts) These $25K awards will be presented annually, at our awards dinner, to the most outstanding students identified among our 26 partnering colleges and universities across the U.S.

For this year, (4) students who have already received a $5K scholarship award will be eligible to receive an additional $20K award upon recommendation, selection and attainment of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Each partnering school will be asked to submit (1) Scholar from this past years recipients (2008) for committee consideration. Due date 9/15/07
